Greatest Rivalry in Baseball

As you may know New York is playing Boston in a three game series, starting tonight. These games have always been really intense whenever they both play each other. It all began in 1919 when the Red Sox owner Harry Frazee was running out of money for his team.

Frazee had no choice but to sell one of his players, which was Babe Ruth to the Yankees for $125,000. This has been known now as one of the worst trades in baseball history. Getting rid of there star player and later a baseball legend. Boston began going down hill, fans began to become disappointed

However the New York Yankees became the most successful teams in the history of baseball, capturing 26 world series since the year 2000. As time went on New York acquired future hall of famers. It was so bad that Red Sox fans kept blaming the Yankees for how bad they were while New York was getting all the praise.

Boston always seemed to have fallen short against New York in the regular season or in the postseason. Each game played up to this day always tends to be brutal. A lot of fights tend to break out. There will never be peace between the two teams.

Yankees vs. Red Sox Rivalry

In honor of this upcoming series against the Boston Red Sox, here are some of there nasty fights they had in the past.

Rare New York Yankee Feats

David Cone
Against Montreal on 7/18/1999
It has been a very long time since a perfect game has been thrown. If you do not know what a perfect game is, it is a game in which all batters from one team are retired in order with no one reaching base.
David Wells
Against Minnesota 5/17/1998

Don Larsen
Against Brooklynn on 10/8/1956
Did you know that there has only been 23 pitchers in the history of baseball who has thrown a perfect game? Three of those pitchers were from the New York Yankees.

The three pitchers achieving a perfect game are David Cone in 1999, David Wells in 1998, and Don Larsen in game 5 of the 1956 World Series.

There is no game today. Off day for New York as they travel to Boston as Tanaka will take on Owens in a night match. Game time will be at 7:05 p.m.

Injury Updates

Hicks was sent to go get an MRI earlier this morning and we have yet to receive the results. Girardi told Hicks that if he woke up the next day and was sore that he would have to go get an MRI. He had made some impressive plays the past few days. one of them making history.

Branden Pinder

Branden Pinder was placed on the 15 Day DL due to a right elbow strain. Reports say he has a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament. Pinder was given two options, to either do rehab which will take some time or have Tommy John Surgery. This hurts the Yankees bullpen a little meaning someone may have to pull more weight until Pinder gets back.

Injury Update!

Aaron Hicks was taken out in the fifth inning of Friday nights 6-3 win over the Rays due to a sore shoulder. They announced that they did not take any tests but Hicks is questionable day to day. The sore shoulder occurred while diving for the ball in the fourth inning.

Hicks has been hot on defense in the past few games especially last night making history with the fastest throw at 105.5 mph in history from the outfield. He will be back hopefully by Monday in my opinion. He is just sore that's all. No need to worry he will be fine.

On the bright side New York managed to get the job done on the field and at the plate.

Hicks hits 105.5 mph fastball!?

In last nights game the Yankees left fielder Aaron Hicks made the fastest throw ever in baseball history from the outfield. Hitting a speed of 105.5 mph Hicks made a throw from left field to home in the matter of seconds, throwing out Danny Valencia. However that's not his first time making, "superhuman," plays.

One question I may have is, why he is not a pitcher for the Yankees. The Yankee rotation needs a lot of help including the offense. Hicks has brought something very special to the Bronx. His speed is unbelievable and his overall performance on the field is incredible. Don't be surprised if they switch Hicks to a pitcher one day.

Sabathia gets the start in tonight's match-up, looking to put New York back in the win column, against Moore and the Tampa Bay Rays. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. in the Bronx.

Final: Athletics 3 - Yankees 2

New York's offense fell short once again. This game went into extra innings. The Yankees look like they need to put some extra effort into practice for tomorrow. These are games they should not be losing. They fought hard but fell short. They need to come up big. You can't make it to the post season playing like this. STEP IT UP!

One of the Greatest Sports Franchises

Yankees vs. Athletics Game Preview

Pineda will be facing Sturkamp in today's match-up against the Oakland Athletics. New York is looking to revive there offense at the plate while the Athletics continue to struggle, stranding 84 runs since the beginning of the season. But New York isn't any better, only going 4-for-57 with runners in scoring position.

If anything both of these teams need to get out of this slump. New York just got out of there slump. Hopefully Pineda and the Yankees can capitalize in these next three games. They need to improve or this season isn't looking very good. I think Pineda will get the job done today's game. Both teams have something to prove.

Game time: 7:05 p.m. at Yankee Stadium.

15 Reasons to Why the New York Yankees are Hated?

It never seems to amaze me the things they come up with to why people hate the Yankees. They are a baseball team. Not the government. You can dislike them all you want but they will still be the greatest. You can't change history because New York already set it in stone.

HIstory of Babe Ruth

Full Name: George Herman Ruth Jr.

Born: February 6, 1895

Location: Baltimore, Maryland

Parents: George Sr. and Kate George Jr.

Nicknames: The Great Bambino, The Sultan of Swat, The Caliph of Clout, The Big Bam, The Behemoth of Bust

George was one of 8 children in his family. But him and his sister Mamie were the only ones who survived. Growing up George Jr. wasn't a really good boy getting into trouble all the time until the parents finally said enough is enough.

He was only seven year's old when George Jr.'s parents sent him to St. Mary's Industrial School for boys. This turned out to be one of the most important piece of his life because that school was where George Jr. developed his love for the game of baseball.

Brother Mathias was one of the monk's at the school who grew to really like George Jr. and later Brother Mathias became one of Ruth's biggest role models. Brother Mathias was another very important piece in the history of Ruth's life, working on George Jr's baseball skills trying to improve and make him a better ball player.
Brother Mathias
In the month of February 1914, Ruth became so good at baseball that Dunn, of the Baltimore Orioles was invited to scout him. Dunn thought he was a very good baseball player and wanted to enter in to a contract. The only problem at the time was George Jr. was only 19 so Dunn became his legal guardian so they could complete the contract.

As time went on all the Baltimore players would call George, "Jacks newest babe." This is where his nickname, "Babe Ruth," comes into play and that will be his most well known name in the history of baseball.

Eventually Ruth was traded to the Boston Red Sox as a pitcher, winning his first game on July 11, 1914. In 1915, Ruth went 18-8 and 1916 he even went 23-12. He was so good as a pitcher he never had a negative season as a pitcher. But in 1918, they began to try changing Ruth to an everyday player because his hitting was so good and the Red Sox didn't want to leave that out.

On Dec. 26, 1919, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees entered into an agreement trading Ruth. This will be one trade that will turn the greatest rivalry in the history of baseball.

With the Yankees, Babe Ruth was fulling transitioned to a full time outfielder. Ruth began dominating the league and every team he faced at the plate. Setting records everywhere. Just becoming one of the greatest. He was so great, that when the Yankees moved to there new stadium that was built in 1923. It was named, "The house that Ruth Built."

With the New York Yankees, Ruth helped lead them to 7 pennants, and 4 World Series Championship titles. As time went on Ruth was traded to the Boston Braves and that is where he retired in 1935. He held around 56 major league records. His greatest times in his career was without a doubt the Yankees.

Babe Ruth was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in the year of 1936. Ruth's number was retired during his last time in Yankee Stadium. Babe Ruth later died from cancer on Aug. 16, 1948.

Overall I believe for his time he is still the greatest baseball player in history. He's had one intriguing story that became one of the most important pieces in baseball history.

Yankees Vs. Mariners Game Preview

Tonight's game will be against the Seattle Mariners. Severino gets the ball in tonight's start against Karns, both are still looking for there first wins of the season. Game time will be at 7:05 p.m. at Yankee Stadium. It's going to be one interesting night since Robinson Cano will be returning to the Bronx but not in pinstripes.

"I understand [why they act the way they do]," Cano said. "I agree with them. I'm not there anymore. It's not like you're going to cheer for [someone on the opposing team the way you'd cheer for] one of your guys. I have fun with it. I don't have any complaints about Yankees fans. They remember me and supported me, and it's something I'm always going to appreciate."
We will see the reactions later tonight. Maybe he will be cheered on for the 9 years he played for the Yankees or will he be booed for leaving. I get he left because business is business. If he didn't like the contract they offered Cano, at least they gave it there best shot. I'm sure people will be excited to see him back in action.

This should be a good game. New York is looking to bounce back from there tough series loss to the Blue Jays. There bats fell short in the last two games. They hope to gain some ground with Severino on the mound.

FINAL: Toronto 4 - New York 2

Check out the video above for a full game recap.

Yankee Fun Fact of the Day

When you look at Sport's teams all around the world. What do you tend to notice about them? Well you may look at the mascots. New York does not have a mascot presently but they did have one for a brief moment, from 1982 to 1985.

His name was Dandy and he was a pinstriped bird, wearing a Yankee uniform. Since then New York has not had a team mascot and it should stay that way because they were known for not having one and I believe it's best to stick to there tradition. It's what makes the New York Yankees unique.

Game time is at 7:07 p.m. Nasty Nate get's the start for the Yankees in tonight's match-up against Stroman and the Blue Jays.

Mariano Rivera History

Score Update: New York is trailing 3 - 1 against Toronto in the top of the sixth.

Final: New York 3 - Toronto 2 Game Recap

Last night was definitely a good performance by the New York Yankees winning 3-2 against one of there toughest tests of the year. Last season the Yankees were on a roll but the only the that kept hurting New York's second half of the season were the Blue Jays.

New York entered the sixth inning trailing 2-1 until McCann hit a homerun to tie the game at two. Jacoby Ellsbury scored the winning run with his go-ahead single in the seventh inning. It's great to see some life in Ellsbury because he has been taking hits lately because of his poor performance at the plate.

Masahiro was a lot better in this start, only giving up two runs over five innings. He only lasted five innings due to his high pitch count. He needs to keep working, he's still not at his best. But he got the job done last night regardless. Tanaka is still looking for his first win of the season. Overall this was a very good game.

Pineda gets the mound in tonight's start against Happ and the Blue Jays. Game time is at 7:07 p.m. at the Rogers Centre.

Yankee Update

The New York Yankees have come to an agreement to extend there lease for there spring training field in Florida, through 2046. There are even renovating Steinbrenner Field giving it a new look which could cost upward towards $40 Million, maybe even more.

In 1996, New York moved from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Tampa,  Florida.

The Yankees deal is not completely confirmed yet, it has to be confirmed by the following:
  • Transportation Security Administration Board of Directors
  • Hillsborough County Aviation Authority
  • Hillsborough County
  • City of Tampa
  • Hillsborough Community College Board of Directors
The funding will be coming from Hillsborough County by the tourist development tax, the spring training program itself and the rest will be payed by the team. They are expected to complete this renovation in March of 2017.

Yankee Fun fact of the Day

On this day April 11, was the day the pinstripes finally appear on the New York Highlander's uniforms in 1912. If you look closely in the picture below you can see the pinstripes. Now even though this picture is not in color, the stripes were originally black instead of midnight blue.

New York has an off day today. They will be back at it tomorrow against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Yankee World Series Facts

  1. It's pretty well known that New York has the most World Series Championship wins, at 27.
  2. Mickey Mantle has 18 world series homeruns which is the most in history.
  3. Yogi Berra played in more world series games than any other Yankee catcher in history.
  4. Casey Stengel and Joe McCarthy have the most titles as managers.
  5.  Mariano Rivera pitched in the most World Series games.
  6. New York at least have won two titles in each decade accept for the 1980's. That shows they can be pretty consistent.
  7. Jeter was the only player in history to be named All-Star Game MVP and and World Series MVP in the year 2000.

Game time for tonight is at 8:10 p.m. and watch Tanaka looking for his first win of the season against Justin Verlander.
(This game has officially been postponed.)

Final: New York 8 - Detroit 4

New York managed to pull away in this game, and a lot of the credit has got to go to Sabathia looking pretty decent in his first start not allowing any hits/runs until the 4th inning. Castro continues to stay hot for the Yankees and A-Rod smashed his first homerun of the 2016 season. I would say today's game was a good one for the Bronx Bombers!

Recap of New York's First Series Win

A lot has been learned in the first three games of the season for the Yankees.
    • The pitchers need work.
      • The reason why New York won was based off of there offense. Over the course of three games, Yankee pitchers have given up 16 runs total.
    • The offense is living up to there name.
      • They have 27 runs scored in only three games. This is definitely what New York is in need of.
    • Castro is legit.
      • Starlin is the rising star, having 8 RBI's, he is already setting franchise records.
      • He is going to be key in this offense, so he needs to stay healthy.
Overall, New York is showing signs of life. Hopefully they will continue to gain strength and keep winning.

Game time is at 1:10 p.m. against the Detroit Tigers. Severino has the mound today vs. Zimmermann.

    Yankees Crush Astros

    Final: New York 16 - Houston 6

Let's recap on last night's blowout against the Astros. New York scored six runs in the first inning. They were all over McHugh. All together the Yankees recorded three homers. One of them being Castro and that was his first as a Yankee. He continues to stay hot for New York.

"I just wanted to be the player that I used to be, to show everybody that I am a good player,"
"I can be a better player if I work hard every day, and that's what I'm trying to do. [We] come in here every day and we focus on the game and try to be ready every day."

Castro went 4 for 5 in last nights game, and he seems to be the rising star for the New York Yankees. But we can only hope that he will stay consistent with his hitting and his fielding.

While the offense was having one heck of a night smacking around the Astros, New York Yankees pitcher Pineda didn't have have a very great night, giving up six runs over five innings. Two of those were to Correa who hit two bombs. New York most likely will not repeat scoring 16 runs over and over again. Hopefully Pineda will zero in his next start. He wasn't terrible, but he wasn't great.

Overall this game was all over the place but at the same time it was very exhilarating. I mean who wouldn't be excited about your favorite team scoring runs... especially 16 in only one game.  Let's hope New York continues to stay hot against the Astros today. Game time will be at 4:05 p.m. Nasty Nate has the mound today for the Yankees against Mike Fiers.

    Yankee Quote of the Day

"My heroes, my dreams, and my future lay in Yankee Stadium. And they can't take that away from me."
                                                                                          - Derek Jeter

Yankee Fun Fact of the Day

Did you know that New York didn't have pinstripes on there uniforms until April 11, 1912. However they were not the first pinstripe uniform in baseball. It was the Chicago Cubs who introduced them first in 1907.

Presently today the pinstripes on the uniforms today are midnight blue, but back then they started off as black pinstripes. But in 1913 the Highlanders had gotten rid of the pinstripes, claiming it may have been due to all the losses they had that season. No worries because the stripes were back on those uniforms in 1915.

    Goose Gossage
"Putting those pinstripes on was the closest thing I could say [I've had] to an out-of-body experience. ... I sat there and looked in the mirror. I was in total awe."
    -- Hall of Famer
    Goose Gossage

Game time is at 7:05 p.m. Pineda is on the mound against McHugh. Let's get the win!
