Baseball is business, and the the value of the team is more impacted by what happens outside of the ballpark. Paying fans contribute to the value of any given team, but the value of a team is represented by the enterprise value itself, and the value of the stadium. However, ownerships of teams change from time to time, and a potential buyer of a team is likely willing to pay at least five times the estimated value. This has to do with relationships outside the ballpark and even the legacy of the team itself. The five most valuable MLB teams are as follows:
1. New York Yankees - Current Team Value: $3.4 billion
2. Los Angeles Dodgers - Current Team Value: $2.5 billion
3. Boston Red Sox - Current Team Value: $2.3 billion
4. San Francisco Giants - Current Team Value: $2.25 billion
5. Chicago Cubs - Current Team Value: $2.2 billion
